What We Do
Blue Sky Farm & Sanctuary is a non-profit organization located in Canterbury, Connecticut that provides hands-on recreational and therapeutic activities for children and youth whose lives have been impacted by foster care.
We offer an array of individually designed, equine-assisted programs, lessons, and volunteer activities which help restore the health and well-being of our students.
Our Mission
We harness the power of the human - horse connection to help children, youth, and young adults who’ve experienced foster care thrive. We provide a healing learning environment where our students build job, life, and leadership skills, develop trusting relationships, and are members of a supportive community.
Our Vision
A world where our nation’s children living in foster care have the relationships and experiences they need to heal, grow, and thrive.
Our Work
At Blue Sky we focus on nurturing and promoting the health and well-being of our students. A positive relationship with just one caring adult can change a child’s life. The more healthy relationships children in foster care have, the more likely they will be to recover from trauma and thrive. Relationships are the agents of change. At Blue Sky we help our students build relationships.
Our wonderful Blue Sky team provides customized horse care and riding lessons, job and life skills programming, young parent and child classes, and homework help. Our herd of wonderful horses - mini to draft sized - act as valued friends, teachers, and guides to Blue Sky students who are developing confidence, new skills, and meaningful connections.
We partner with other visionary non-profits to create hands-on learning programs and provide an alternative meeting space for social workers and teachers to meet with our students and their families.
